Ensure you set goals when marketing your small business

When we talk about goals, we talk about goals, metrics or objectives that mostly can be measured in some way shape of form.

It’s easy in business to blur the lines, often by accident, between business objectives and ego. Given the ease to get the word out there, and sometimes the gratification we can get by someone liking our social media post or telling us they loved our radio commercial, it’s super easy to be sucked into the world of ego marketing versus business objectives marketing. Your ego doesn’t help you drive revenue or make sure you stay true to your positioning.

Stay focused on what your business is trying to achieve, not getting more pats on the back. It’s part of the problem in big business marketing. Brand or marketing managers want their names up in bright lights, billboards, TV ads, hiring a creative agency that they spend (note I didn’t say invest) millions on with little to no return, and sometimes a negative return if they’re not true to their core positioning.

Your marketing plan super tangible, very action orientated. Do this activity (tactical) on this date, saying this, looking like this. And make sure there’s a goal for each activity.
