Is digital marketing the only way that you are trying to drive your business and your revenue in 2025? There are so many marketing activities that are out there and we found that direct marketing, which is actually physically sending something to someone out there, can actually be beneficial.
So why do I say that? We are so used to receiving junk in our inbox and emails. So imagine the delight from a customer or client or potential customer or client when they see something personalised for them, that is customised to them and that resonates with them it shows that you've taken the time and the care and the understanding of what they do to see if you're able to help them.
Direct mail is not dead and if we talk about consumers then it's about sampling. Giving them a sample, letting them try, showing them what your actual product does and how it physically helps them.
That's why I think places like expos are great, where you can get in front of people and show and demonstrate what you do. I don't think that everything has to be online. The online is important and it gives credibility and yes you can get touch points and yes you can get clients but don't dismiss direct marketing and getting in front of people.
Sending something customised to them to make them feel warm and fuzzy and that you actually care about what they do.
Great marketing for your small business brand in 2025
Here’s a tangible example of the importance of having a clear message and a strong positioning statement. So let's compare two businesses, they're both gardening businesses, so the business over here let's call it XYZ gardening. Does everything in your garden like maintenance, landscaping, it does pool gardening landscaping, it does it all.
Then we have ABC gardening over here, whose core message is all around visiting your home every month to maintain your garden. Now clearly the first example does a whole lot more and the offering is plenty but how much more difficult is it to communicate that message when you're doing a whole lot of everything versus ABC gardening whose core message is to come to your home once a month to maintain your garden?
That message is super simple and it makes it easier to cut through to people that may need your service. Now if you're someone that wants that maintenance service and you go to the two websites, clearly the first one is going to be overwhelming and the second one is super simple. If for example you're someone that did want pool landscaping, you're probably not going to go to that first one the gardener because they do a bit of everything. You would want to go to someone who is a pool landscaping expert who knows pools who knows the intricacies of gardening and landscaping around a pool to make it look best for your home.
So a few key outcomes of that example, one the importance of positioning and focus makes it easy for you to communicate what you do in a simple way. By not having a focus and not having a positioning makes it harder for you to cut through. We live in such an overcommunication society so keeping your message simple is key to cutting through driving revenue and driving profit for your small business.
