The simplest way to start marketing your Australian small business in 2025
One really simple marketing action that you could focus on this year is making sure that you start to build up your database. Now, what do I mean by that? If I look at how our business, we’ve been going for 17 years and I can admit to you that the collation of our database in the first 5 years was absolutely terrible. Now back then there were no platforms like MailChimp of PipeDrive to be able to collate that information and communicate to potential clients and customers on a regular basis, but now there are so many platforms that allow you to do that. So, what I want you to do is, any interaction that you have with any type of potential customer, client or supplier is make sure that they’re happy for you to add them to your database. You can imagine if you collect a couple of emails or a couple of phone numbers every week, that adds up. Let’s do some numbers. Let’s pretend you collated five email addresses or phone numbers every week and you did that by 52 weeks over the year. 52 x 5 = 260 email addresses or phone numbers that you’re able to communicate to on a regular basis. Then it’s about actioning that and creating some type of content to communicate them, whether it’s an SMS or an email, it’s really simple to remain top of mind and get out there. So if you did that for two years, that’s 520. If you did it over 3 years, that’s 780. Now these are really conservative numbers, but it’s about taking action and actually starting that process. If I think about all of the interactions we have with potential clients and I ask them is this something that you’re doing, 99% of the answers are no and I understand it because they’re too busy worrying about operations, worrying about keeping their customers and clients happy, not about their own business and working on their business. So start actioning it and imagine how many people you can add to your database over the next year.
How to build your small business for long term success
Way to often we see small business owners wanting a quick fix in their business and their marketing and then they think marketing is going to solve all of their problems and think marketing is something that is going to help their business overnight. Marketing is a process for every business, it’s not about the marketing activity, it’s about how are you going to position your business and your brand in the minds of your customers that is different to the competition. Are you minimising the competition and actually communicating that through marketing activities. Now this process is a long one, if you know a business that’s had overnight success through marketing, then let me know. But every successful business and brand that I know that has had long-term sustainable success overnight, not just a spike and then they don’t exist anymore. Every business that has had long-term sustainable success builds their business and their brand, their team and their processes over time. So it’s about setting up that structure to make sure that you have long term sustainable success. Little Marketing do not help clients to achieve overnight success because they just don’t exist. Like everything in our lives, financial goals, health goals, training goals, it’s about having some structure and consistency in the work that you do and building that process and that business for long-term success.
